How it works

  1. Open the PDF splitter. Go to the Formatly PDF Splitter page. The service is free and requires no account.
  2. Select your PDF document. Drag and drop the PDF you wish to split into the upload area, or click to select from your device.
  3. Start the splitting process. Select 'Split PDF (extract pages)' in the target dropdown menu and click Convert.
  4. Download the ZIP archive. Once completed, click Download to retrieve your ZIP file containing each page as an individual PDF.

Why split a PDF?

A large PDF is awkward to share. Splitting it into individual page PDFs lets you send just the pages someone asked for — one page of a contract, the summary section of a 100-page manual, a single invoice from a statement bundle. Each page comes back as its own clean PDF, so the recipient gets exactly what they need instead of a file to hunt through.

Splitting is also how people reorganize documents: pull the pages you need out of a big file, reassemble them in a new order with our merge PDF tool, and discard the rest. The original file is never modified, and every extracted page keeps its original layout and quality.

FAQ

How does the PDF Splitter work? When you upload a PDF file, the splitter reads all pages and writes each individual page to its own single-page PDF document. These pages are then packed together into a single ZIP archive for you to download.

Can I split password-protected PDFs? No. If your PDF is encrypted or password-protected, the splitting tool won't be able to open it. Please remove the password protection before uploading.

Is there a limit on the number of pages or file size? The uploaded PDF file must be under 20 MB. There is no hard limit on the number of pages, although extremely large documents may take a few more seconds to split.

Does splitting reduce PDF quality? No. Each page is extracted losslessly from the source — text stays searchable and selectable, and images keep their resolution. The only change is that one page is now its own file.
